The Bird Room

This summer, from June 22 to August 10, the artist Bjørg L. Strømme will be exhibiting at Skredhaugen.

She is especially interested in her surroundings—nature and birdlife, as well as culture and architecture in old historic buildings.

The exhibition at Skredhaugen is titled The Bird Room.

The exhibition is open when the Friends of Skredhaugen hold events, or by appointment.

About the Artist

Bjørg is trained as an art teacher, with a focus on textiles, design, and function. Altogether, she taught art subjects for 33 years in primary school, upper secondary school, and adult education. Drawing and painting have accompanied her throughout her life, and when she retired 18 years ago, she began working intensively with watercolor painting. She started with acrylic painting 8 years ago.

Bjørg has held around 30 solo exhibitions and has participated in almost as many group exhibitions throughout Norway. In addition, she has taught watercolor and acrylic painting.

Bjørg has received cultural grants, and several Norwegian municipalities have acquired her works. For her cultural contributions in her home municipality of Fitjar, she was awarded the Cultural Prize in 2021, together with her husband Karvel. In 2007 and 2024, she took part in Ljosanott in Iceland.
