Have a taste of Krotakake
Every Tuesday from July 1st to August 5th, we bake “krotakake” in the smokehouse at the museum courtyard, from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM.
Krotakake are a traditional dish in Hardanger. Krotakake resemble flatbread, but the dough is made from rye flour, water, and yeast. The pattern on the cakes comes from a special rolling pin. The cakes are baked over an open fire. You can enjoy them dry, like flatbread, or soak them and add butter, sugar, cream, or salted food. Come and see the experienced bakers in action! You can taste the cakes and buy them directly from the smokehouse or in the museum shop.

Due to high demand for this exclusive item, we have limited sales to a maximum of 5 cakes per person for on-site purchases, and a maximum of 10 cakes per person for pre-orders. Pre-ordering of “krotakaker” must be done by the Sunday before, by calling 47 47 98 84 or e-mailing post@hvm.museum.no
